H.I.S. BridgeBuilders

As a followup to our post on Seek Social Justice Lesson 2: “The Power of Family and Friends,” I wanted to include some additional comments by Mike Fechner, the President and Founder of H.I.S. BridgeBuilders. In this segment, Mike talks about the kind of living that God wants from us in terms of building relationships with those who are in need. He also encourages us to open our eyes to seeing injustice from God’s perspective, especially in places that are near where we live and work. Mike spent more than 10 years cultivating friendships in low-income communities before starting H.I.S. BridgeBuilders with Velma Mitchell in 1995. His words have the hard knock of truth that comes from direct experience.

Here’s a preview of one of my favorite lessons in the new Seek Social Justice series. I think it’s the children that do it for me – they’re very funny. We shot this in Dallas, Texas with a fascinating ministry called H.I.S. BridgeBuilders. Its goal is to link up people from different backgrounds who then can stand together on the gospel, using their relationships to advance social justice in their communities. We explored one relationship in particular that has lasted for years between an inner city family and a suburban family: it’s a great story.   (BTW – Signup to get a free copy of the complete Seek Social Justice study.)
